Read articleThe G-spot. Sought by men for decades for its magical sexual powers. Now, a doctor in Florida claims to have finally found it. Dr. Adam Ostrzenski, a leader in the field of cosmetic gynecology, identified the G-spot during a careful dissection of the vaginal wall of an 83-year-old deceased woman in Poland. He described it as “a deep, deep structure” that consisted of small, grape-like clusters of erectile tissue in a tiny sac. This remarkable discovery, announced in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, far from ending the debate about the G-spot’s existence, is only getting both sides worked up again. Not everyone believes that there is a single “spot” on women with magical sexual powers. This over-simplifies the female anatomy. “No, there is not an ‘it’! It is not one entity,” Beverly Whipple, a sexologist who made the term “G-spot” popular, told the Los Angeles Times. Whipple also faults Ostrzenski for failing to show that the structure he found has nerve endings or contains erectile tissue, or has any relation to sexual arousal in females. Previous research shows that the G-spot might exist as a distinct area. One study showed that electrostimulation of the vaginal wall enhanced sexual arousal, while another found that stimulation increased the release of oxytocin, the “cuddle” hormone. Other studies, however, seem to indicate that women may have many G-spots. Ostrzenski, and others, will likely continue to search for evidence of the mysterious G-spot. Many will fail, but some may succeed. And who knows? They might even find it before the woman is 83 years old.
