Allyson Felix was in the lead a few meters out, but her lead was stolen by Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas. Miller passed Felix by making an all-out dive for the line and broke the finish line while on her knees. Although the maneuver is technically legal, it has sparked a discussion of whether it should be allowed and how ethical it is.

In the women’s 400m hurdles, Sydney McLaughlin, Ashley Spencer, and Dalilah Muhammad all advance to the semifinals later on today.The women’s U.S. gymnastics team continued to dominate headlines on Day 9 of the Olympics, but for different reasons. American Laurie Hernandez came up with the silver medal followed by Simone Biles who surprisingly won bronze in the women’s beam event. Biles was favored to nab a gold in this event but slipped when attempting a somersault, and almost fell off of the beam. This has been the only disappointment for Biles during the Olympics, but a great accomplishment for Hernandez.
