Our opening comments aside, we’re not saying that rousing speech had zero effect. In case you missed it, the game was a rout. Midfielder Carli Lloyd scored the fastest goal in Women’s World Cup history (one of three) en route to a 5-2 win over Japan. Of course, Johnson followed up with the leading ladies after the game.
“They’re warriors, rock stars and they’re the greatest in the world at what they do,” Johnson says. “Remember how much they’ve inspired an entire country.”
