Read articleWe love all things NFL at Muscle and Fitness. From the old school training of Jared Allen to the bombastic biceps of Thomas Jones and Laron Landry’s intense workout routine, these guys grind it out in the gym before tearing it up on the gridiron.
Defensive tackle Geno Atkins of the Cincinnati Bengals is showing that he is leaving nothing to chance as he prepares to enter training camp. Atkins works out with Clif Marshall, performance director at Ignition APG in Cincinnati, Ohio. On his Twitter handle, Marshall says that over 200 NFL players have worked out at the center, and in one update reinforces the fact that “the month prior to training camp is the most important time for an NFL athlete to be serious about their performance training.”
Well, Atkins, who reports back to Bengals training camp on July 25, seems to be taking the man at his word. Marhsall explained to Dayton Daily News why the defensive lineman is able to pull off these impressive fitness feats. “What you need to know about Geno is when I look at my attendance sheet over the past three years his name is at the top,” he said.
“He’s been here more than any other NFL player we have in the program. Geno is consistent and has a blue-collar approach every day he comes in to work out. More importantly, I think the transition and the way he uses the strength and power of training on the football field is what’s most impressive to me.”
The Bengals took Atkins in the fourth round of the 2010 draft and the former Georgia Bulldog is a two-time pro bowl pick. The results of his hard work are clearly paying off.

Atkins isn’t afraid to go heavy when training legs either, as this recent tweet shows him squatting some serious steel (Atkins told one follower on Instagram that is a 495-pound squat). To coin an overused phrase: hard work and dedication! More power to you Geno.
