Read articleThese days, Jas Mathur is known for his healthy lifestyle, positive attitude, and commitment to reinventing himself. But it wasn’t always that way. “At my peak, I was 450 pounds—I had a 68-inch waist and wore a size 6XL shirt,” says Mathur, who made a “life change” in his 20s. “I lost 88 pounds in the first three months.”
Since then, Mathur has dedicated his life to health and wellness, not only shedding more than 250 pounds and building serious muscle but also launching the celeb-friendly fitness company Limitless. “The majority of people in today’s society are hesitant to take a step toward achieving their goals because they’re afraid of failing,” Mathur says. “You have to believe you can, and then you will. You have nothing to lose!” Here’s what Mathur had to say about his fitness journey, his success, and his future.
When did weight first become an issue?
When I got my first computer at age 11, I started gaining weight. I was a huge wrestling fan, and that got me into learning web design and development.
Why did you decide to lose the weight?
I impulsively bought a tiny sports car, which I couldn’t fit into, and I reconnected with a girl from high school who I was interested in on Facebook. I didn’t want her to see what I looked like, and it lit a fire in me to change my appearance. Prior to this, I was never really health-conscious.
How did you lose the weight?
First off, mindset. I told myself I was going to do it. I had a trainer, who guided me on what to eat, how to eat, and when to eat. I also took vitamins and supplements, a great aid during my journey.
What was the reaction to your 250-pound weight loss?
My friends are in disbelief. It took several years to overcome my insecurities, but I feel grateful to have been given a new lease on life. It took a lot of work, but I am living proof that amazing results come from discipline, commitment, and consistency.
How are you using your own experience to inspire others?
I want people to understand there is more to weight loss than training. Overcoming emotional hurdles is far more challenging than transforming physically. The goal is to never let obstacles stop you from turning your dreams into reality. Also, meditate to unlock your true potential.
