From Lolo Jones, October 2013: “Ready. Set. GAME FACE! U.S. Olympic hurdler @lolojones gets ready to stare down a different type of track this winter via BPTeamUSA”Two-time summer Olympian hurdler Lolo Jones is one step closer to becoming a Winter Olympic athlete after again making the U.S. Bobsled Team as a push athlete. However, while she is still in the mix, the final roster for the Sochi Olympics has still to be named. As she explains herself on Twitter: “Thanks for all the congrats guys. To be clear The USA Bobsled National Team was named today but The Olympic Team will be named in January.” That said, her progress in just over one year has been quite impressive. To mark the strides she has made in her new sport, we are taking a look at some of the photos she posted on Instagram at certain stages along the journey so far.
The Journey Begins
From Lolo Jones in October 2012: “My first time going down the bobsled track. I felt like someone put me in a garbage can and threw me off of Mt. Everest”
En Vogue
From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “Trying to out do the Victoria secret model next to me. #PoseOff.”
Jones has enjoyed a celebrity-like profile in the media. The 31-year-old endured a difficult upbringing to excel at the 100m hurdles, and she was the hard-luck story at the 2008 Olympics when she hit the ninth hurdle while leading and stumbled to a seventh-place finish. Jones fought back to make the team in London 2012 but placed fourth in that final. Though battered and bruised, Jones’ dream of winning an Olympic medal was not dead, and she decided to take up bobsledding to try and get on the Olympic podium. Sprinters have made the transition before, but it is not an easy one. Jones, who has profited from her looks with several endorsement deals, can be a polarizing figure, and she didn’t endear herself to her new fraternity when she dissed the pay that bobsledders earn earlier this year. That said, she is still in the mix to get on the plane to Russia, and her dream is still alive. The following slides will give you a taste of what she has done to get to this point.
The Challenge
From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “Me at Bobsled practice, The sled weighs 400 pounds. Track practice starts in 9 days…”
Burning Heart
From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “Training in Outside in Russia. The only thing missing was The Rocky IV soundtrack playing”
Adversity
From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “Injured at Practice. hand bleeding.need stitches. Stuck. road closed. If I could give the middle finger I would”
Determination
From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “From Lolo Jones, February 2013: “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Proverbs 24:10”
There’s No Shortcut to Get Cut
From Lolo Jones, March 2013: “999,000… 1,000,000… 1,000,001… can’t I just draw em on coach?”
Making It Happen
From Lolo Jones, April 2013: “Today, I shoveled the snow and then ran on the track. Sometimes u aren’t on the wrong path, u just have to clear it urself”
Simple Mantra
From Lolo Jones, August 2013: “Be better than yesterday #AsicsTraining #HowiTrain”
Believe
From Lolo Jones, August 2013: “Mile by mile, breath by breath. If u think u can’t finish, take one more step”
Bulking-Up
From Lolo Jones, September 2013: “These used to be easier when I weighed 135lbs for Track. Now I weigh 155lbs! 7 lbs more to go. #sochi #winterOlympics”
Hitting the Weights
From Lolo Jones, September 2013: “On Instagram straight flexin #105kilos”
Getting It Done
From Lolo Jones, October 26, 2013: “Bobsled Team Trials Race with @JazmineFenlator”

From Lolo Jones, October 26, 2013: “When I told @JazmineFenlator I peed a little bit in the back seat when she hit curve 13 #bobsled #Team.”
Eyes on the Prize
Jones is under no illusions about the size of the task ahead of her and needs to have a big World Cup season to make the Olympic team. We’ll keep you posted on her progress!
